On this episode of A Brother's Creed Podcast we speak with Terry Cook who has been in the life insurance industry for 30+ years. Terry is also the author of several books and a successful part time real estate investor. We start the episode by discussing the various types of life insurance and what generally how each works. Following this conversation, we dive into this concept of being your own banker. Terry talks about how he has used his high cash value Whole life insurance policy to not only fund his real estate investments but to also take advantage of several other benefits that owning a policy offers (called riders). Having long term care insurance, additional medical insurance, and other add-ons to a policy can prove worthwhile. The decision to purchase life insurance requires a long-term mentality and may involve some uncomfortable thoughts of what may happen if you or your spouse died, Terry advises it is best to think of those things now. Terry also walks us through some of the joys and pains he has gone through with his unique style of investing in real estate. In the end Terry shares some words of wisdom from a lifelong career in the finance industry on how we can set ourselves up for success.

On this episode of A Brothers' Creed we discuss the importance of self-awareness in our lives. Being in self-aware in the modern age is incredibly important, between micro and macro aggressions it is easy unintentionally offend someone. That does not mean we need to always walk on eggshells, but it is important to understand the impact our words and actions may have on others. We discuss how being self-aware makes people more fulfilled, more confident, better communicators, better leaders, more honest, and have better relationships. We share stories and talk about how not to be "that guy". You know, the one who clips his toenails in the middle of the office, while his fish is cooking in the microwave. Self-awareness and acting with intention, enables us to become better people and improves the lives of those around us.

#20- Humility - An attribute of strength, not of weakness
Wednesday Feb 17, 2021
Wednesday Feb 17, 2021
On this episode of A Brothers' Creed Podcast we talk about how the world sees humility as a weakness but we prove how it can be an attribute of strength. We compare and contrast the worlds definition on humility to our own. We share personal experiences of how being humble and grateful are truly the twin characteristics of happiness. We share historic examples of humble men who despite great achievements did not pridefully boast of their accomplishments. Developing humility can be challenging in such a competitive world but without it we lose site of our humanity. Fostering humility within ourselves and our families will fortify us against the negative influences of society.
“When there is a lack of humility it can lead to pride and judgement. This can lead to anger and the destruction of relationships.” - Ethan Thomas
” Humility is the doorway and pride is the door. By removing pride and great pearls of wisdom will enter your life by the mouth of others and by the mouth of god. The more you can get that door out of the way the more blessings and wisdom can enter your life” - Jared Thomas
